In Salesforce, reports can be customized on a large scale, allowing us to tailor them to our specific requirements. When you need to change the column name in Salesforce reports, it can be done for reports created by custom report types.

Rename Column Name in Salesforce Reports
In Salesforce, renaming report columns within standard report types is not possible.
When creating a Custom Report Type, we can update the Display Label for any added field. When we update the Field Column Names in the custom report type, every report created using that Custom Report Type will show the renamed labels without changing the field names.
To rename the column in custom report types, navigate to Salesforce Lightning’s setup page and follow the steps below.
- On the Salesforce Lightning setup page, navigate to the Quick Find box, search for, and select the Report Types.

- In the Reports types setup, click on the label of the custom report type in which you want to rename the columns.

- In the selected report type, scroll down to the section Fields available for reports and click the Edit Layout button.
To rename the column in custom report types, navigate to Salesforce Lightning’s setup page and follow the steps below.

- Select the field names you want to rename in the report column and click the Edit Properties button. You can also select multiple fields with the help of “Shift+left click.“

- Now, you will see the text field labeled ‘Display as’. In this field, we will enter the overwritten field name. These changes will only appear in the custom report’s UI.
After renaming the field’s display name, click on the OK button.

- To see how the renamed fields will display on reports, click Preview Layout.

In the preview, you will see the overwritten name of the object field.

- At last, click Save to apply the changes.
View the Applied changes:
To view the changed column name, we will create a custom report using the custom report type in which the changes were made.
- Navigate to the reports tab and create a New Report.
- In the report type, select the custom report type and click Create Report.
- In the report builder, add a search and then add the columns to the report table from the Columns section.
Here, we can see that the column names are overwritten according to the changes we have made.
