In this Salesforce tutorial, we will discuss how to resolve this issue where Chatter Post button does not visible in Salesforce Lightning.

Chatter is an amazing feature of Salesforce that allows sharing of information, supports collaboration, and real-time communication. Moreover, in Salesforce, there are multiple Chatter components for a variety of tasks.

However, recently when I tried using the Chatter in the Salesforce Lightning edition, I could not the Post button.

So, in this tutorial, we will discuss why the Post button is not visible in the Chatter component. Moreover, we will also cover the steps required to fix this issue in Salesforce Lightning.

Reason why Chatter Post button does not visible in Salesforce Lightning

As discussed at the start of the tutorial that there are different types of Chatter components in Salesforce. The three basic types of Chatter components are Chatter Feed, Chatter Publisher, and Chatter Component.

Let us discuss these categories in detail.


Chatter Feed: This Salesforce component focuses on displaying the information. This information could be posts or updated from other groups, users, and records. So, overall, the Chatter Feed will display information and it does not have any Post option.


Chatter Publisher: As the name signifies, this component allows you to create posts and quickly share information. So, overall, this component allows posting information. Thus, this component has a Post button.

Chatter: This is the combination of both Chatter Feed and Chatter Publisher. This component allows the creation of posts and also displays posts created by other users. So, overall, the Chatter includes everything for collaboration and real-time communication.


Now let us come back to the main issue.

Basically, when we are trying to access the Chatter component in Salesforce Lightning, we are accessing the Chatter Feed not the exact Chatter component.

So, to solve this issue we need to modify the Page layout for the required object and replace the Chatter Feed with Chatter. However, for the simplification of this task, you can follow the steps given in the next section.

Solution of Chatter Post button does not visible in Salesforce Lightning

Now that we understood the reason for this issue, we can move forward to the next phase where we will see how to solve it.

Here ate the solution steps that we can follow:

Step-1: First, log in to your Salesforce Lightning account and open the Home Setup page. For this, click on the gear icon (⚙️) and then click on the Setup option.

Step-2: Next, click on the App Launcher icon given in the top-left corner. Then search and open the required object.

In our case, we have selected the Accounts object.

Step-3: Once we click on the object, it will open the Recent record list view for that particular object. So, from the list, click on any record and open it.

Here we open the United Oil & Gas Corp record from the Accounts object. This is a United States based account record.

Step-4: From the record details page, click on the gear icon given in the top-right corner of the window. And then click on the Edit Page option.

Step-5: Once we click on the Edit Page option, it will open the Account Record Page in the Lightning App Builder. Here first click on the Chatter option which will open the Tabs section in the right-side menu. Now, click on the cross sign (❌) given next to the Chatter tab.

This step will basically remove the Chatter tab and its component from the page.

Step-6: Next, under the same Page > Tabs section, click on the Add Tab option. This will add a Details tab by default. Now, again click on the Details tab, select Chatter from the list, and click on Done.

This step will create a new Chatter tab on the Account Record Page.

Step-7: Now, move the left-side menu, and under Components search for Chatter component.

Step-8: Next, drag the Chatter component from the left side and drop it inside the empty Chatter tab section.

Step-9: After this, click on the Save button given in the top right corner. Also, we need to activate the page. For this, click on the Activation option given next to the Save button. Then choose the Default category for the page then Save the page.

Like in the above example, we have kept the page as Org Default for only Desktop in Salesforce.

So, once we execute the above steps and then navigate to the Record Details page, we can see that the Post button in Chatter is now visible.
