How to Add Lead Source in Salesforce

In Salesforce lead management, it is crucial to identify the source of leads. With the lead source, we can know whether the lead is coming through ads, referrals, events, or social media.

Recently, we got a requirement to add one more value to the Lead Source picklist field. The sales team wanted to track leads from a new marketing campaign, but the default picklist didn’t have that option.

In this Salesforce tutorial, I will explain how to create or add a lead source in Salesforce.

What is Lead Source in Salesforce?

The term “Lead Source” in Salesforce is generally utilized to describe the channel or origin by which a lead or potential client is found. It may be a website, a recommendation, a commercial, a trade show, or any other marketing or communication tool.

The Lead Source field in Salesforce is crucial since it enables the sales and marketing teams to identify which channels or campaigns are generating the most leads and which ones aren’t.

This allows both teams to concentrate their efforts on the best lead-generating techniques and adjust the marketing and sales procedures as necessary.

Salesforce users can make informed decisions about resource allocation by tracking lead sources and analyzing the quality and conversion rates of leads from various sources.
