As a system admin, I was working on opportunity reports in Salesforce. Recently, the sales team wanted to analyze the sales of some states. For that, they want a report of closed won opportunities only for those states, excluding other states. So, instead of applying a filter for each state differently, I have used multiple value filters in the Salesforce report.
Here, I will explain what a multiple-value filter is and its uses. Then, we will explain step by step how to filter multiple value in Salesforce Report.
Multiple Values Filter in Salesforce Report
In the Salesforce report, when we want to search multiple values for the same field, instead of applying a filter for each value separately, we can use a multiple values filter to search for more than one value. This filter will return the records that contain the value that we entered.
When we want to add multiple values to a filter value, we need to use a comma to separate the values. After applying the filter, it will return those records that contain the value you entered while applying the filter.
Uses of multiple values filters in Salesforce:
- This allows us to search for more than one value at a time, which saves time when creating reports.
- This enables the user to narrow down our data and makes it more straightforward to analyze data. It makes our task easier.
- Using this filter helps to reduce complications and lengthy processes.
Filter Multiple Value in Salesforce Report
Suppose in the opportunity object you want to search multiple Billing States/Province, then instead of applying a filter for each value, we can use a search multiple value filter. Using this, we don’t need to apply a filter to all values.
In the following steps, I will explain how to filter multiple values in a Salesforce report.
To create the record in Salesforce Org, log in to your Salesforce account and follow the below steps.
1. Go to the Home Page, then click the App Launcher. In the search box, search for the Report and click on it.

2. To create a new report, click on the New Report button.

3. Now, you need to select the Object to create the report. In the Category option, click All and search for the Opportunities object. Then click on the Start Report button.

4. Here, you can see that different values are present in the Billing State address field before we apply a filter to the report. Now, we will apply a multiple-value filter so that we can create a report with the values we want in a single operation.

5. Now follow the below steps to apply a filter:
- Click on the Filter option. -> Then, you need to select based on which field you want to filter records. Here, I have selected the Billing State/Province.
- Here, you need to select the equals operator because we want to filter the values that match our text.
- As we are using a multiple-value filter, we want to filter more than one value so that we can add multiple values with comma separation. Here, I have entered TX, IL, and NY.
- Then click on the Apply button.

6. After applying the multiple value filter in Salesforce, you can see in the billing state column only those values are displayed, which we entered in the value field while applying the filter.

In this way, we can search the different values and create the record using the multiple values filter in Salesforce.
Conclusion
I hope you have an idea about filtering multiple values in the Salesforce Report. In that, we have seen what a multiple-value filter is and its uses. Then, by using an example, I explained how to filter multiple values in the Salesforce Report so that we can search different values for the same field instead of applying a filter to each value separately.
