In this Salesforce Tutorial, we will learn to Mass Edit Records with the help of Inline Editing in Salesforce Lightning and Salesforce Classic as well.
Mass Or Multiple Records Inline Editing
In Salesforce we have the feature of inline editing which allows us to edit the records from the list view of records instead of going to edit mode of each record. It is also helpful to inline edit multiple records.
While Working in the Sales team of an organization that uses Salesforce CRM to track customer data and activities, we need to make modifications in the opportunities and accounts record by changing the Stage field of multiple opportunities and a few accounts names of the contacts.
In that situation, I used Multiple Inline Editing to modify those records. Now, I will show you how I did Inline editing of multiple records in the below steps.
Mass Edit Records by Inline Editing in Salesforce Lightning
To Mass Edit Records by Inline Editing in Salesforce Lightning, log in to your Salesforce developer account and follow the steps below.
Step-1: For the Inline editing of records in mass, first make sure that you have enabled the inline editing. In case you have not enabled the Inline Editing then go to User Interface and enable the Inline editing as shown in the below picture and then click on the Save button to apply changes.

After enabling the Inline Editing, first I will show the Inline editing of Mass records in Opportunities.
Step-2: Now select the Record for the multiple inline editing. In this case, I have selected the Opportunities record for the Mass Inline edit. For that, click on the App Launcher on the Setup page and search opportunities in the search bar, and then click on the same.

Step-3: On the Opportunities records window, click on the Edit list icon as shown in the below picture.

Step-4: Now select the multiple records for Inline Editing by activating the checkboxes of the particular records. We are going to to edit the Stage field of all selected opportunities, so in the stage, column click on the edit icon as shown in the picture below.

Step-5: Now we have to select the Stage option from the dropdown list. In this case, earlier it was Qualification and I will change it to Need Analysis.

Step-6: After changing the Stage of the record activate the checkbox Update items to apply the same changes in all the records we have selected for inline Editing and after this click on the Apply button.

Step-7: As we click on Apply, the same change is done in the Stage field of all the selected records. Now to apply these changes click on the Save button.

On clicking the Save button, we can see a message on our screen of applied changes as shown in the below picture.

We have successfully mass-edited records of Opportunities by Inline Editing in Salesforce Lighting. Now I will show you the inline editing of multiple Records in Contacts.
Step-8: In the Sales application of Salesforce Lightning click on the Contacts tab.

Step-9: Click on the pencil icon at the upper right side of the screen to begin inline editing for records.

Step-10: In this step, select the accounts to edit by activating the checkboxes of Contacts and hover the cursor on the field you have to edit, and click on the pencil icon. In this case, I have edited the Account Names of multiple contacts.

Step-11: Now we have to select an Account that we want to replace with the precious one. In this case, I have changed the account name from Wolkswagon to Wolkswagon Machines and after selecting the account click on the checkbox Update selected items and then click on Apply button.

Step-12: As we click on Apply, the records will be edited with the changes we have made. Now, click on the Save button to apply these changes in the records.

As we click on the Save button the changes will be applied to the records of contacts. In this way, we have successfully edited multiple records of Contacts with the help of Inline editing in Salesforce Lightning.
Mass Edit Records by Inline Editing in Salesforce Classic
First log in to your Salesforce Developer account and follow the below steps to Mass Edit Records by Inline Editing. Here I will explain to you mass records edit in Oppotunities first.
Step 1- On the Home page of Salesforce Classic click on the Setup tab.

Step 2- On the Setup page of Salesforce Classic, click on the Quick Find box and search User Interface and then click on User Interface under the Customize section.

Step 3- In the User Interface activate the checkboxes Enable Inline Editing and Enable Enhanced Lists and then click on the Save button to apply changes.

Step 4- Now on the Home page of Salesforce Classic click on the Opportunities tab and in the Opportunities click on the Go button.

Step 5- Now select the multiple opportunities records by activating the checkbox from the Action column. Then go to the column you have to edit for all records and when you will hover the cursor over the column field, a pencil icon will appear. Now click on that pencil icon.

Step 6- Now an Edit window will appear on the screen and there edit the field. In my case, I have edited the close date field to update all records. After editing the field, activate the checkbox All selected records to make these changes apply in all columns.

As we click on the Save button, the selected records will be updated with changes applied. I have changed the close date for the selected records and you can see the changes applied in the picture below.

Till now I have shown you the Inline editing of Opportunities in Salesforce Classic. Now, I will explain to you the process of Inline editing multiple contacts in the steps below.
Step-7: On the Home page of Salesforce Classic click on the Contacts tab.

Step-8: In the Contacts window select the contacts for inline editing by activating the checkboxes of those contacts and then hover the cursor on the field you have to edit, there you will see a pencil icon, click on that icon.

Step-9: Now I will first change the account from Wolkswagon to Wolkswagon Machines and activate the checkbox Update selected items. After making these changes click on Apply button.

Step-10: As we click on Apply button, we can see that changes have been made. Now click on the Save button to apply these changes.

Now we successfully edited Contacts records in Salesforce Classic with Inline Editing.
