Here, we will learn how to set the visible lines for the text area long field in Salesforce Lightning.
The same steps must be followed to set the visible lines for the text area long field in Salesforce Classic.
In this example, we will create a custom long text area field for the Case object that captures detailed information about the customer issues entered in the long text area field Case details.
Here, we want to set the visible lines for the case details field so the support agent can quickly review and edit it to understand the customer’s issues. We want to make sure that the case details are visible without scrolling.
Here are the following steps:
1. Navigate to the Setup page of Salesforce and click on the Object Manager tab.
2. In the Object Manager tab, search for and select the object for which you want to set the visible lines for the long text area field.
3. In the Object setup, click on Fields and Relationships.
4. In this step, select an existing Long text field or click the New button to create a long text field.
5. From the list of data types, select Text Area (Long) and click on the Next button.
6. Enter the required details like Field Label and Field Name.
In the Visible Lines field, set the number of lines you want to display for the long text area. In this example, we have set the Visible Lines as 15. After this, click on the Next button.
7. To establish the field-level security for the Long text area field, select the profiles that can access this field. After this, click on the Next button.
8. Select the page layouts to make this field visible on the page layout and click the Save button.
9. To check the visible lines in the long text area field, navigate to the object and open a record or create a new record.
In the Long text area field, enter long text like description or detail and click the Save button. The lines displayed in the field will be according to the number we have set for Visible lines.
