Salesforce Rich Text Field can be used to format text with common formatting options like bold and italic, which are unavailable in plain text.

Recently, I worked for the Freddie company in the United States of America. While working here, I received a task where I needed to format the text. To fulfill this requirement, I used the text area rich Field Type.

Let’s discuss in more detail how to create the Rich Text Field in Salesforce Lightning and Salesforce Classic.

Text area rich field type is defined as a field type that permits the users to enter the formatted text and add images and links. We enter the 131,072 characters on a separate line. We can create a rich text field in any object.

This rich text area field provides additional functions, such as the ability to view and edit the source, and it also supports more HTML styles.

Consider a scenario: There is a Costco company that launched some products in the market and wants to get feedback about the product from the consumer who buys their products. The company wants loyal feedback about its products.

If there is any need to improve the product quality, they focus on that after getting the feedback. For getting feedback from the users, they use a text-area rich field in which the customer can add their feedback. The feedback entered reaches the company.

How to Create Text Area Rich Field in Salesforce Lightning

Here, we are creating the text area rich field type in Salesforce Lightning.

Consider a scenario: We are using the product object inside the product object. We want to add product feedback as a text area rich field because some companies want feedback about their products.

Here are the following steps:

1. Log into your Salesforce Account. Go to the Gear Icon. Click on the Setup option. Click on the Object Manager.

2. Here, we want to select the Product object. To do so, enter the product object in the search box and click on it.

3. The field and relationship option is present under the product object page. Click on the fields and relationship option.

4. For creating the field type click on the new button that is present at the top of the field and relationship page.

5. Here, we are selecting the Text Area Rich field. This field allows users to enter formatted text and add images and links. We enter the 131,072 characters on separate lines and then click on the next button.

6. Now enter the details. First, fill the Field Label as Product Feedback and then fill the Length as 32,768. After that, fill the visible line by 25 and then fill the field name by simply clicking on the field. Click on the next button.

7. Now establish field-level security. Now select the profiles to which we want to grant edit access to this field via field-level security. Click on the next button.

8. Now, add the custom field to the page layout. Select the page layout that should include this field. Click on the save button.

9. Go to the app launcher and enter sales in the search box. Select sales, the sales page is open and then select the product object.

The product object record page is open. There is a details section, and under this section, the text area rich field is created. We can enter feedback related to the product in the product feedback field.

How to Create Rich Text Field in Salesforce Classic

Here, we are creating the text area rich field type in Salesforce Classic.

Here, we are taking an example: we are using the campaign object. This campaign object is like a container-related marketing effort. In this campaign object, we want to add the campaign description as a text area-rich field where we give the description related to the campaign.

Here are the following steps:

1. Login into the Salesforce Account –> Click on the Profile Picture –> Select the Switch to Salesforce Classic option –> click on the Setup option.

2. Enter the lead in the Quick Find Box. Click on the Campaigns drop-down menu. The drop-down list is open, under this drop-down list there is a field option. Click on the Fields option.

3. The campaign custom field page is open. Scroll to the bottom of the page. There is a Campaign Custom Fields & Relationships section. For creating the new field click on the new button.

4. Here, we are selecting the text area rich field. Click on the next button.

5. Now enter the details. First, fill the Field Label as Campaign Description and then fill the Length as 32,768. After that, fill the visible line by 25 and then fill the field name by simply clicking on the field. Click on the next button.

6. Now establish the field-level security. Now select the profiles to which we want to grant edit access to this field via field-level security. Click on the next button.

7. Now, add the custom field to the page layout. Select the page layout that should include this field. Click on the save button.

8. Click on the Campaign object. The campaign object record page is open. There is a details section, and under this section, we can see that the text area rich field is created, and we can enter the description related to the campaign in the campaign description field.
