While working with Salesforce CRM as an admin, I tracked daily records activities, including Tasks, Events, Log Calls, Emails, etc. However, I could not view the Email tab on the Activities tab of the Account object. Then, by modifying the page layouts, I added the Email tab under the Activity tab.
In this Salesforce tutorial, I will explain how to add a missing Email action tab under activities on the record page and how to remove the action tab so that you can remove unnecessary tabs from the record’s activity tab.
Along with this, I will also show you how to add the missing Activity tab to the record page. This issue generally occurs when you create a custom record page.
Activity tab in Salesforce
In Salesforce, on every custom or standard record page, there is an Activity tab that displays the activities performed for that particular record. These activities include tasks, events, log calls, emails, etc.
These activities are generally displayed as tabs under the Activity tab on the lighting record page. Using this activity view, it is easy to track the activity of the specific record.
Add a tab on the activity tab in Salesforce Lightning
In this example, I will add a tab on the Activity tab of the Account object, and you must follow the same steps to add tabs on the activity of other Salesforce objects.
Now, navigate to Salesforce Lightning’s setup page and follow the steps below.
1. On the setup page, click on the Object Manager tab. In the next window, select the object from the list of objects.
2. In the object setup window, click on the Page Layouts in the left sidebar and then select the default page layout.

3. In the setup window of the page layouts, click on Mobile & Lightning actions, then drag the Email action to the section Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions.
After this, click on the Save button to apply the changes.
To remove a tab you don’t want in the Activity tab, drag it back to the Mobile and Lightning actions from Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions.

4. Go to the object’s record page and refresh the page. Under the Activity tab, you will see the Email tab.

This way, we can add a missing tab in the Activity tab of the Salesforce record page.
Add the Activity tab to the Lightning Record page in Salesforce
If the activity tab is missing on the Lightning record page, you can add it using the Lightning app builder. This issue generally occurs when you create a custom Lightning record page and forget to add the activity tab.
Follow the steps below to add the Activity tab to the Salesforce Lightning record page.
1. Navigate to the record page on which you have to add the activity tab. Click on the gear icon at the top and select Edit page.

2. In the Lightning app builder, drag the Tabs component to the template region of the record page.

3. On the left-hand side, click on the tab, change the tab label to Activities, and click the Save button.

4. Drag and drop the Activities component in the Activity tab, then click Save to apply the changes.

The Activity tab will be visible on the app page, as shown in the image below.

This is how we can add or retrieve the missing activity tab on the Salesforce Lighting app page or record page.
If you cannot view the Activity tab even after following the above steps, you can follow the steps below to do so.
- On the setup page, click your profile and click on settings.
- Go to Display & Layout.
- Look for Record Page Settings.
- Check if the setting is set to Activity Timeline.
After following all the methods I have explained in the above steps, if you are still unable to view the activity tabs or the actions in the activity tab, then follow this article link that might relate to your issue.
