Salesforce allows us to manage different sorts of activities related to an object. And in Salesforce Lightning, it is done under the Activity tab for each record of a Salesforce Object.
Majorly, there are 4 kinds of activities, and the Log a call activity is one of the most popular one to use. Additionally, Log a call is utilized in salesforce lightning to record the interaction between the user and the customer.
Additionally, this Log a call activity comes with some fields like Subject, Comment, Name, and Related To. However, there could be various cases where we need more fields in the Log a call activity.

How to customize the log a call in Salesforce Lightning
Step-1: First open the Home Setup Page in Salesforce by clicking on the Gear icon (⚙️) and selecting the Setup option.

Step-2: After this, from the Home page click on the Object Manager option in Salesforce Lightning.

Step-3: Next, from the list of objects, select the Account object. However, this will open the Object Manager page for the Account object.

Step-4: After this, from the left menu, click on the Buttons, Links, and Actions option in Salesforce Lightning.

Step-5: Next, on the Buttons, Links, and Actions page, click on the New Action button. After this, we will land on a page where we can create a new action for the Account object.

Note: Here please note that we are not customizing the existing Log a call action. Because the Log a call action is a standard action for many Objects in Salesforce Lightning. So, for this implementation, we will create a new log a call type action in Salesforce Lightning.
Step-6: Next, for the new action button specify the following options:

After specifying the content for the options, click on the Save button.

Step-7: Once we click on the Save button, it will redirect us to the Layout page for the Log a Account action.
- Now, from this page, we can select the set of fields that we want for our action.
- For example, if we want the Status field for the Log a Account action, we just need to drag the button from the Tasks Fields section to the below section.
- In the last, click on the Save button to save the changes.

Step-8: Next, we need to add the New Action (Log a Account) button to the Activity Timeline. For this, click on the Page Layout option from the side menu of the Account Object Manager page.
Step-9: After this, click on the Account Layout option. And then it will open the Page Layout for the Account object.

Step-10: Next, drag the Log a Account button from the Mobile & Lightning Actions section to Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions section. In the last, click on the Save button.

After following the above steps, we have successfully created a customized log a call action in Salesforce Lightning for the Account object. Moreover, this Log a Account action will appear under the Activity Timeline for each Account record.
