The collection of data organized in a group of fields within the table is called records in Salesforce.
In this Salesforce tutorial, I will explain Salesforce records. I will also explain various ways of how to create a record in Salesforce Lightning and Salesforce Classic.
What is a Record in Salesforce
Salesforce Record is a group of information within a specific object. The table in the database is represented by the object in Salesforce. Each of the objects contains multiple records, and each record stores the individual data.
For example, in Salesforce, you have a “Leads” object, and they have different fields such as “First Name”, “Last Name”, “Company”, etc., and the data filled in such field regarding one entity works as a record in Salesforce.
Additionally, there are two types of records: “Standard” and “Custom”.
- Standard Records: Some of the records are prefilled in Salesforce org within various objects such as “Leads”, “Account”, “Contacts”, etc.
- Custom Records: Salesforce allows the users to create custom records within the object to store the data relevant to the specific entity.
In this way, you have learned what is recorded in Salesforce with its types and examples.

In Salesforce, users can create a record for some of the objects without navigation into the particular object using the quick create functionality. This quick create option is available on the sidebar of the interface, so it is also known as creating records from the sidebar.
