Please note down one thing creating a salesforce user and creating a community user is not the same. In Salesforce, the steps to creating both are totally different.

Step 2: Click on New.

Step 3: Fill up the contact details which are required such as Salutation, First Name, Last Name, Email, and Account Name. Click on Save.

Assign Role
Make sure of one thing before we proceed, our contact owner must have some role. So, let’s learn to assign the role to contact the owner if he/she is not assigned.
Step 1: Click on Setup, and search roles in the Quick Find search box.

Step 5: Click on the Set Up Roles check box.

Step 6: Select Expand All and choose the role that we want to assign them. Suppose, I want to assign the role of CEO, I click on the Assign.

Step 7: Transfer the user name from Available Users Search to Selected Users for CEO, to whom you want to assign the role of CEO. Click on Save.

Step 8: In lightning mode, we don’t have any button for converting contacts to community users. So, we have to shift to the classic edition. Click on the avatar and select switch to salesforce classic.

Step 9: Select the contact, Henery Brown from the recent item.

Step 10: Click on the Manage External User dropdown and select Enable Customer User. Then, change the username to make it unique if already exist.
Also, select the User License and Profile and click on Save. Here, I select the License as Customer Community Login and the profile as Help Service Community Profile.

Step 11: The external user or community member will then receive an email on their registered address with a link to the community space to which they have access as well as their username.

Step 12: The link will take you to the page where you can change your password when you click it. The community user is redirected to the community space to which they have access after setting the password successfully.

So, with this, we have successfully created the community user in the salesforce lightning edition.
