In this Salesforce tutorial, we will learn to create and add a favorites list to the Salesforce Navigation in the Salesforce Lightning and Classic editions. For this, we will add a view list to the favorites and then display it in the navigation of the Sales app of Salesforce.org.
Creating and adding of favorites list to the Navigation
In Salesforce modification of data, records, objects, and record pages is possible on a very high scale. One such modification is adding of favorites list to the navigation of Salesforce.
Creating a favorites list helps you access frequently used records and objects quickly. The feature to directly add a favorite list to the navigation is available in Lightning but not in the Classic. In classic, we can get the same result by adding a Custom link to the Home Page.
While working in the role of System Admin for a company that uses Salesforce CRM to track customers’ data and activities, I got a requirement to create and add a favorites list to the Salesforce Navigation.
The company has numerous custom objects, fields, and reports and this big data was hampering productivity by consuming time in the search of records.
To enhance productivity, it was required to create and add a favorite list feature to the Salesforce Navigation. This feature will allow users to access the most frequently used records with ease.
Create and Add Favorites List to Navigation in Salesforce Lightning
To create and add a favorites list to the Salesforce navigation, we first need to create a list view, and to do that follow the below steps.
1. On the Setup page of Lightning, click on the App Launcher -> search Sales -> select Sales under the heading Apps.
2. In the Sales application, click on the Accounts tab and you can also select any other object like Opportunities or Leads to create a list view.
3. In the Accounts window, click on the dropdown of the list views, and from the options in the dropdown select the view that you want to add as a favorite. In this example, I have selected the List View named Platinum and Gold SLA customers.
4. After selecting the list view, click on the Star icon that is on the upper right side of the screen, and after this click on the pencil icon in the navigation.
Now we have added this list view as a favorite, and in further steps we will add this favorite view to the navigation bar.
5. As we click on the pencil icon, a pop window of Edit Sales App Navigation Items will appear, and in this window, click on the button Add More Items.
6. In the Add Items window, click on the Favourites under the heading Available Items. Then click on the “+” button of the favorite list. In this example, I have selected the favorite list of Platinum and Gold SLA Customers.
7. We can also select more than one favorite list view. After selecting the favorite list view, click on the button Add Nav Item.
8. As we click on Add Nav Item the selected favorite list view will be added to the navigation bar and here we can also change its position by dragging it top-bottom. At last click on the Save button to apply changes.
As we click on the Save button, the navigation bar of the Sales app will display the favorite list view Platinum and Gold SLA Customers tab, as shown in the picture below.
In this way, we have successfully created and added a favorites list to the Navigation in Salesforce Lightning.
Create and Add Favorites List to Navigation in Salesforce Classic
In the Classic edition of Salesforce, there is no built-in feature like Lightning to add the favorite list view to the navigation. We can add a favorites list to the Home Page in Salesforce Classic by modifying the home page and adding a shortcut of the favorite list view to it.
Now navigate to the home page of Salesforce Classic and follow the steps below.
1. On the Home page of Salesforce Classic click on the Setup tab.
2. In the Setup page, go to the Quick Find box on the left-hand side and search for Home -> select Home Page Layouts under the heading Home.
3. In the Home Page Layouts window, click on the Edit button of the default home page layout.
4. In this step, go to the section Select Narrow Components to Show, activate the checkbox Custom Links, and click on the Next button.
5. In this step, we can arrange the order of the components with the help of arrow buttons. After arranging the components click on the Save button.
6. Now back to the setup page, search home in the Quick Find box, and from the search options select Home Page Components.
7. In the Home Page Components window, click on the Edit button of the Custom Links component.
8. In the Custom Links, add a name to the shortcut for the list view in the Bookmark field, and in the URL field add the URL of the favorite list view page. After adding a bookmark and URL click on the Save button.
Now go to the Home Page of the Salesforce Classic and on the left side under the heading Custom Links we can see the shortcut link to the list view. As we click on this custom link we can access the favorite list view that we added in the URL.
Now we have added the shortcut to the list view with the help of Custom Link in Salesforce Classic with the help of the above steps.
Conclusion
In this tutorial, we have learned about creating and adding a favorites list to the navigation in Salesforce Lightning, and since the feature of adding a favorites list to the navigation was available in Salesforce Classic, we added a custom link to the home page to access the record on the home page through Custom links.
