As a Salesforce Admin, I created a custom test home page in a sandbox, and by mistake, this test home page got assigned to all profiles in the org.
When users saw an incomplete or blank Home page, they raised issues such as “My Home page looks wrong” or “I can’t find my dashboards.”
To fix this, I must remove the custom home page assignment and switch back to the standard home page.
In this article, I will explain how to remove a custom home page in Salesforce and restore the default layout.
Remove Home Page in Salesforce
In Salesforce Lightning, removing a home page means deactivating or unassigning the custom Home Page from the Salesforce app.
We can remove the custom home Page assignment, but we cannot delete or remove the Salesforce default home page.
The default page will always remain in Salesforce and can only be overridden by a custom home page.
When we deactivate or remove a custom home page assignment from an app or profile, the page is not deleted. It remains available under Setup -> Lightning App Builder -> Lightning Pages.
To delete a custom home page or any lightning record page in Salesforce, you must first remove all assignments from that page. Once the page is no longer assigned to any app, profile, or as the org default, Salesforce will allow you to delete it.
How to Remove a Custom Home Page in Salesforce
To remove a custom home page from the Salesforce application, log in to your Salesforce account and follow the steps below.
- On the Setup page, type Lightning App Builder in the Quick Find box. Then, under User Interface, click Lightning App Builder to open it.

- In the Lightning App Builder, you will see a list of all Lightning Pages. Select the Home page you want to remove.
- Here, I have selected the Custom Home Page. Click Edit as shown in the screenshot.

- After clicking Edit, the custom home page opens in the Lightning App Builder.
- On the right side, click the Activation button.

- In the Activation: Custom Home Page window, go to the activation mode you previously used. Like for whom you activated this page.
- Since I activated this page using App and Profile, I will open that section.
- There, click Remove Assignments.
- Then click the Save button to update the changes.

- You will now see a list of apps where this custom homepage is assigned.
- In my case, it is assigned only to the Sales Tech App.
- Select the checkbox as shown in the screenshot to remove access from all apps, and click Next.

- At this point, we have removed the custom home page from the application.
- As shown in the screenshot, the Current Page (Custom Home Page) is now overridden by the System Default Page, which is the Salesforce default home page.
- Click Save to confirm the changes.

To verify the removal, go back to the app where the custom home page was previously assigned.

As shown in the screenshot above, the custom home page has been removed and is now replaced by the default Salesforce home page.
