We will learn about how to Create an Average Deal Report in this Salesforce tutorial. Creating an Average Deal Report is possible in both editions i.e. Salesforce Lightning and Classic. This report is not an in-built report in Salesforce, so we will create this report with customization and adding filters.
Average Deal Report in Salesforce
In Salesforce, the Average Deal Report is a custom report that is created with the help of opportunity records. This provides insights into the average value or size of deals or opportunities over a particular period of time. The Average Deal report is commonly used by sales teams to analyze their performance in sales and make efficient decisions according to that.
While working as a system admin for an organization that provides tech solutions and uses Salesforce as their primary CRM tool to track Client activities and data. I was asked to create an Average deal report for the opportunity records so that the sales team could analyze their sales performance by calculating the average deal size for a specific time period.
In the below steps, I will explain the method of creating an Average Deal Report in Salesforce with the help of examples.

Create an Average Deal Report in Salesforce Lightning
To Create an Average Deal Report in Salesforce Lightning, go to the Setup page and follow the steps below.
Step-1: On the Setup page of Salesforce Lightning click on the App Launcher and search for sales then from the options in the dropdown click on the Sales app.

Step-2: In the Sales application click on the Reports tab.

Step-3: In the Reports window, click on the button New Report in order to create a new Average Deal Report in Salesforce Lightning.

Step-4: We will select the Category and Report type for the new report in this step. In the Category section on the left-hand side choose Opportunities and in the Report Type again select Opportunities. At last, go to the Details section in the right sidebar and click on the Start Report button.

As we click on Start Report, the report will be generated in the next window. In the next step, we need to apply filters.
Step-5: In this step, click on the Filters tab that is on the left-hand side of the screen, and in the Show me field select All Opportunities. In the Close Date field select the duration of records you have to display in the report. For example, I have selected the Close Date as the Current Financial Year.
At last, select the Opportunity Status field as Closed Won.

Step-6: After applying filters, click on the Outline tab, and from the Column section drag the Close date to the Group Rows section.

Step-7: Now go to the report table and click on the dropdown of the Amount column in the dropdown click on Summarize and then select Average.

Step-8: Now we can see the Average Amount column is created displaying the average amount in total. To remove the unnecessary columns deactivate the Detail Rows button and last click on the Save & Run button to first save and then run this report.

Step-9: In this step, we have to enter the required details to Save this report.
- In the Report Name field, enter the name relevant to the report we have created. For example, I have named this report as Average Deal Report.
- Click on the field Report Unique Name and it will auto-fill according to the report name we have given.
- In the Folder, select Public Reports as a folder so that all users can have access to this report.
- After making the above changes click on the Save button.

As we click on the Save button the report will be saved and it will run in the new window as shown in the picture below.

In this way, we have successfully created an Average deal Report in Salesforce Lightning with the help of the steps above.

Create an Average Deal Report in Salesforce Classic
In order to Create an Average Deal Report in Salesforce Classic, log in to your Salesforce account and follow the steps below.
Step-1: On the Home Page of Salesforce Classic, click on the Reports tab.

Step-2: In this step, we will select Report Type for the Average Deal Report. In the Select Report Type column, select Opportunities and then click on the Save button.

Step-3: Go to the report table and click on the dropdown Tabular Format, then from the options in the dropdown select Summary.

Step-4: In this step, remove all other unnecessary tabs by dragging them and only keep the columns relevant to the Average Deal Report. For example, I have kept the column Amount opportunity date, and closed date.
Now drag the column Closed date to the group row displaying the message Drop a field here to create a grouping.

Step-5: In the report table click on the dropdown of the Amount column and from the options select Summarize this Field.

- As we click on Summarize this field, a pop-up window will appear and in this window activate the checkbox Average and then click on the Apply button.

Step-6: In this step, add filters to add records to the report according to the requirement of the Average deal report.
- In the Opportunity status field, select status as Closed Won.
- Select Date Field as Close Date.
- In Range select the time range for records that you want to show in the Report. For example, I have selected the Range field as the Current Financial Year.
- After applying the above filters, click on the button Run Report.

Step-7: On Running the report we can see that the Amount column is showing an average of all opportunity amounts as shown in the picture below. Now to save this report click on the Save As button that is on the top of the table.

Step-8: To Save the Average Deal Report enter the below required fields.
- In the Report Name field, enter the name of the report relevant to the Average Deal report. In this case, I have named this Report as the Average Deal Index.
- Click on the Report Unique Name field, it will auto-fill the unique name according to the report name.
- In the Report Folder, select the Unfiled Public Reports folder to make this report visible to all users.

Now we have successfully created and saved the Average Deal report in Salesforce Classic.
