In this Salesforce tutorial, we will learn how to monitor login history in Salesforce. In Salesforce the login history can be stored for a minimum period of time. It stores for approximately up to six months or depending upon the organization’s data. For analyzing the login history only the admin can have permission for seeing the login history.

While working with an organization that uses Salesforce, I got a task where I needed to monitor login history in Salesforce. To fulfill this requirement I use the login history that is present under the Identity

Login History in Salesforce

In Salesforce the login history tells us the history of all the login attempts. This login history page can show us up to 20,000 records of user logins for the past 6 months. If we want to see more than that records we can download the information in the form of CSV and GZIP file format.

The login history stores the records of the user’s login activities. It also gives information about the user who logged in to the salesforce account and tells when and where the users are logged in from. It also tells the login detail of the users like the Login IP address, and login type, and also tells the login attempts like success or failure in login.

The login history method permits the administrations to scan the user access and also recognised the unauthorized login attempts. It helps in conserving security and traces the user activities by simply recording the login events.

In Salesforce the login history can be stored for a minimum period of time. It stores for approximately up to six months or depending upon the organization’s data. For analyzing the login history only the admin can have permission for seeing the login history.

Step-1: Login into your Salesforce lightning account, Go to the gear icon. Under the gear icon, there are two options present first one is Setup and another one is Service Setup. Here we are clicking on the Setup option.

Step-2: After clicking on the setup option, the setup page is open. Enter the login history in the Quick Find Box and the login history come at the top. Click on the login history. And this login history is present under the identity in the left sidebar.

Step-3: After clicking on the login history option, the login history page is open. Here we can see the history of the login user

This login history gives information about the user who logged in to the salesforce account and tells when and where the users are logged in from. It also tells the log in detail of the users like the Login time, source IP, Location, Login Type, Status, Browser, Platform, Application, etc.

Here we are monitoring login history in Salesforce Classic. If you want to learn how to monitor the login history in Salesforce Classic follow these steps:

1: First log in to the Salesforce account, when we log in to the account the Salesforce lightning edition is open. Moving to Salesforce Classic, click on the Profile picture. The Profile picture drop-down list is open. Under this profile picture list, there is an option to switch to Salesforce Classic. Click on it.

After clicking on the switch to Salesforce Classic option, click on the drop-down arrow of the username. The drop-down list is open, under this list Setup option is present below the My Profile option. Click on the Setup.

2: After clicking on the setup option, the setup page is open. Enter the login history in the Quick Find Box and the login history come at the top. Click on the login history. And this login history is present under the identity in the left sidebar.

This login history gives information about the user who logged in to the salesforce account and tells when and where the users are logged in from. It also tells the log in detail of the users like the Login time, source IP, Location, Login Type, Status, Browser, Platform, Application, etc.
