The sales team in our Salesforce org required a record page that contained all necessary information and actions in one place, improving their efficiency in managing sales opportunities. As a system admin, I created that custom Lightning record page for the Opportunity object according to the sales team’s requirements.
In this Salesforce tutorial, I will explain how to Create a Custom Lightning Record Page. Since this feature is not available in the Salesforce Classic edition, we can create a record page only in the Salesforce Lightning version.
We will also cover the two different techniques for creating a custom Record page in Salesforce Lightning.
Record Page in Salesforce
In Salesforce, a Lightning Record Page is a collection of several components within a single web page. Salesforce Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, etc. has its own unique record page provided by Salesforce, consisting of several standard lightning components, also provided by Salesforce. We can also create a custom record page according to our requirements with the help of standard components.
Create a Custom Lightning Record Page in Salesforce Lightning
To Create a Custom Lightning Record Page in Salesforce Lightning, log in to your Salesforce account and follow the below steps.
1. On Salesforce Lightning’s setup page, go to the Quick Find then search and select Lightning app builder.
2. In the Lightning App Builder setup window, click on the New button.
3. After clicking the New button, we will select the Record Page option in the next window and then click the Save button.
4. Under the Label tag, enter the name of the custom record page, select the Object for which you are creating the record page, and click Next.
5. In this window, select the template format for the Custom Record Page and click the Done button.
6. In this step, we will add Standard Components to the template regions of the Custom Record Page. To add these components, pick them and drag them to the template region, as shown in the picture below.
7. After populating the template regions with the standard components, click on the Save button.
Now, the record page is created. We will return to the Lightning app builder to view the custom record page in the list of Lightning Pages.
In the Lightning App builder, we can see the created Opportunity Record Page in the list of lightning pages. Now, we have successfully created a Record page in Salesforce Lightning.
Create a Custom Record Page through the Lightning Application
To Create a Custom Record Page through the Lightning application, Login to your Salesforce developer account and follow the below steps.
1. On the Salesforce Lightning setup page, search and select App Manager in the Quick Find box.
2. In the App Manager, go to the app name in which you want to create a custom record page, click on the dropdown adjacent to it, and select Edit.
In this case, I have selected the application Sales Tech app for the same purpose.
3. When we click on Edit, this app will open in Lightning App Builder. There, click on the pages dropdown and select New Page from the options.
4. In this step, select the Record Page option and then click on the Next button.
5. Now, we will enter the details of the New Record page in this step. First, enter the name of the Record Page under the Label tag, and then select the object type from the Object field options.
In this case, I have named the record page as Campaign Record Page and selected Object as Campaign. After adding Label and Object, click on the Next button.
6. In this step, select the template format for the custom record page. For this record page, I have selected the Header and Left sidebar options. After selecting the format, click the Done button.
7. In this window, we will add standard components to the templated region of the custom record page. A list of Standard components is on the left side of the screen.
From there, we can pick up the components and drag them to the template region. After populating the template region, click on the Save button.
Now, go back to the Lightning App builder, and you will see the Campaign Record page you created in the list of Lightning App builders, as shown in the picture below.
This way, you can create a custom lightning record page in Salesforce through the lightning app manager.
