How to Create a Custom Lightning Record Page in Salesforce

In this Salesforce tutorial, we will learn to Create a Custom Lightning Record Page in Salesforce. We can create a Record Page in Salesforce Lightning Version only, since this feature is not available in Salesforce Classic edition.

In addition, we will also cover the two different techniques using which we can create a custom Record page in Salesforce Lightning.

Record Page in Salesforce

In Salesforce, a Lightning Record Page is a collection of several components within a single web page. Salesforce Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, etc. has its own unique record page provided by Salesforce, consisting of several standard lightning components, also provided by Salesforce. We can also create a custom record page according to our requirements with the help of Standard Components.

Create a Custom Lightning Record Page in Salesforce Lightning

To Create a Custom Lightning Record Page in Salesforce Lightning, log in to your Salesforce account and follow the below steps.

Step 1- On the Setup page of Salesforce Lightning, go to the Quick Find search bar and there search for Lightning App Builder, later in the dropdown click on the same as shown in the below picture.

Step 2- In the Lightning App Builder Setup window click on the New button.

Step 3- As we click the New button, in the next window we will select the option Record Page and then click on the Save button.

Step 4- In this step, We will enter the name of the Record Page under the Label tag. In this case, I have named it Opportunity Record Page and in the Object field, I have selected Opportunity as an object. After entering the name and selecting the object click on the Save button.

Step 5- In this window, we have to select the template format for the Custom Record Page. I have selected the template format with Header and three regions. After selecting the template format click on the Done button.

Step 6- In this step, we will add Standard Components to the template regions of the Custom Record Page. To add these components pick them and drag them to the template region as shown in the below picture.

Step 7- After populating the template regions with the standard components click on the Save button.

Now the record page is created and we will go back to the Lightning app builder to view the custom record page in the list of Lightning Pages.

In the Lightning App builder, we can see the created Opportunity Record Page in the list of lightning pages. Now we have successfully created a Record page in Salesforce Lightning.

Create a Custom Record Page through the Lightning application

To Create a Custom Record Page through the Lightning application, Login to your Salesforce developer account and follow the below steps.

Step 1- On the setup page of Salesforce Lightning, search App Manager in the Quick Find field on the upper left side of the screen, and in the dropdown click on App Manager.

Step 2- In the App Manager we will see a list of Salesforce Lightning and Classic applications and there select a lightning application and click on the dropdown of that application and then in the dropdown select the Edit option. In this case, I have selected the application Sales Tech app for the same purpose.

Step 3- As we click on Edit, this app will open in Lightning App Builder and there click on the pages dropdown and select New Page from the options.

Step 4- In this step, select the Record Page option and then click on the Next button.

Step 5- Now we will enter details of the New Record page in this step. First, enter the name of the Record Page under the Label tag, and then select Object type from the Object field options. In this case, I have named the record page as Campaign Record Page and selected Object as Campaign. After adding Label and Object, click on the Next button.

Step 6- In this step, select the template format for the custom record page. I have selected the option of Header and Left sidebar for this record page. After selecting the format click on the Done button.

Step 7- In this window, we will add standard components to the templated region of the custom record page. We can see a list of Standard components on the left side of the screen and from there pick up the components and drag them to the template region. After populating the template region click on the Save button.

Now, go back to the Lightning App builder and you will see the created Campaign Record page in the list of Lightning App builders as shown in the below picture.
