While working as Lead Manager in an organization that uses Salesforce as a CRM tool, I got a requirement to add new lead source values. So for this, I add new picklist values to the lead source field in the lead object.

How to add Picklist Values in Salesforce Lightning
Here, are the steps to add picklist values in Salesforce Lightning:
Step 1: Log in to Salesforce Lightning mode, navigate to the right corner of the page, click on the gear icon (⚙), and from the dropdown menu (⬇) select “Setup”.

Step 2: Click on the “Object Manager” located on the left side of the menu.

Step 3: Search for the object on which field we want to add picklist values. For example, here I want to add picklist values to the “Lead” object.
Step 4: Click on the “Lead” object.

Step 5: Click on the “Field & Relationships” option, located left side of the menu.
Step 6: Now, search for the field in which we want to add the picklist values. In this case, I add picklist values on the lead source, so click on the “Lead Source” field.

Step 7: Scroll down to the “Account/Lead Source Picklist Values” section on the page.
Step 8: To add the new picklist values, click on the “New” button.

Step 9: Enter the picklist values in the “Label Source” box. Here, I add values such as Event, Social Media, Inbound Call, Outbound Call, Trade Publication, etc.
Note: Make sure each value should be on its own line and it is used for both a value’s label and API name.
Step 10: Finally, click on the “Save” button to save the newly added picklist values.

With this, we have successfully added picklist values to a field in Salesforce Lightning. Now, we will proceed and learn to add picklist values to a field in Salesforce Classic.

How to add Picklist Values in Salesforce Classic
Here, are the steps to add picklist values in Salesforce Classic:
Step 1: First, we need to log in to Salesforce Classic. For this, click on “Avatar” and select “Switch to Salesforce Classic”.

Step 2: After that, click on the “Setup” option.

Step 3: Now, scroll down to the “Build” section. Then under “Customize”, select the object for whom we want to add the picklist values. Here, I choose the “Contacts” from the object list.
Step 4: Click on the dropdown in front of “Contacts” and select “Fields”.

Step 5: As we scroll down the page, under “Custom Fields & Relationships“, click on the “Level” field label.

Step 6: Scroll down to the “Values” section on the page.
Step 7: To add the new picklist values, click on the “New” button.

Step 8: Enter the picklist values in the “Label Source” box. Here, I add values such as Senior, Junior, Entry-Level, C-Level, etc.
Note: Make sure each value should be on its own line and it is used for both a value’s label and API name.
Step 9: Finally, click on the “Save” button to save the newly added picklist values.

With this, we have successfully added picklist values to a field in Salesforce Classic.
